New Delhi, Feb 15 (NationPress) Young cricketer Priyansh Arya, who is set to play for Punjab Kings in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), expressed his enthusiasm about meeting captain Shreyas Iyer, noting that he greatly admires his attitude.
“I am truly looking forward to meeting head coach Ricky Ponting. I appreciate his pull shot. Additionally, I am eager to meet Shreyas. I admire his attitude and the way he carries himself. I have never had the chance to meet him before. I consider him a fantastic leader; having led his teams to numerous titles, including the IPL and various domestic competitions, he stands out as one of the best captains,” Arya stated in a franchise announcement on Saturday.
During last year’s mega auction in Jeddah, Punjab secured Arya for an impressive Rs 3.8 crore, particularly after he shone as the top run-scorer in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL), scoring 608 runs in just ten innings for the South Delhi Superstarz.
His breakthrough moment came when he struck six sixes in an over while scoring 120 runs against North Delhi Strikers, making him the fourth Indian player to achieve this feat. Arya revealed that after accomplishing this, he received an encouraging message from India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav.
“After hitting three sixes, I started believing I could hit six in a row, especially since my partner Ayush Badoni was consistently hitting four to five sixes every match. When I did it, Suryakumar Yadav texted me, saying my batting was pure entertainment and urged me to keep believing in myself. It was a significant motivation for me.”
Arya, 24, went unsold in the 2024 IPL auction, but upon being selected by Punjab for the 2025 season, he felt immense joy. “I was disappointed not being picked last year. This time, I had high hopes for the auctions but focused on the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 matches instead. When Punjab Kings chose me, I was overjoyed but didn’t celebrate too much as I was still concentrating on my ongoing tournaments. I will definitely celebrate soon.”
