Pujara Encourages Rohit to Secure Initial 20-30 Runs Steadily

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) Veteran Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has urged captain Rohit Sharma to concentrate on scoring his initial 20 or 30 runs consistently, as this approach could enable him to accumulate a substantial score and overcome his recent struggles in Test cricket.

Rohit managed to score only nine runs across both innings while batting at number six in India’s ten-wicket loss to Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Furthermore, Rohit’s average in his past six Tests stands at just 11.83. With the current five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series tied at 1-1, India will need Rohit to regain his form in the upcoming third Test, commencing on December 14 in Brisbane.

“First and foremost, I would love to see Rohit Sharma return to form swiftly. His scoring runs will positively impact his captaincy as well. A captain's performance is intertwined with their form. Therefore, when he scores runs, it will positively influence his leadership,” Pujara stated to Star Sports.

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh remarked that Rohit’s performance is vital for his success as the team's captain. “As a captain, I would wish for Rohit Sharma to accumulate runs. When he does, he tends to make better decisions and think clearly,” he noted.

“Regardless of a player’s stature, performance anxiety is always present. There is no doubt that scoring runs enhances decision-making. Let’s hope Rohit Sharma can score some runs to improve his captaincy,” he added.
