BGT 2024-25: Pujara Encourages Rohit to Secure Initial Runs Steadily

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) Veteran Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has recommended that captain Rohit Sharma should concentrate on accumulating his first 20 or 30 runs in a consistent manner, as this could enable him to compile a significant score and rectify his poor performance in Tests.

In the recent match at the Adelaide Oval, Rohit could only score nine runs across both innings while batting at number six, contributing to India’s ten-wicket loss to Australia. Furthermore, Rohit’s average in his last six Test matches stands at a mere 11.83. With the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series tied at 1-1, India will be relying on Rohit to regain his form in the upcoming third Test, which commences on December 14 in Brisbane.

“First and foremost, I wish for Rohit Sharma to return to form as quickly as possible. His run-scoring will positively influence his captaincy. When a captain is struggling, it impacts their leadership. Thus, I believe that when he scores runs, it will enhance his captaincy,” Pujara stated during an interview with Star Sports.

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh emphasized the importance of Rohit’s form for his effectiveness as the team’s captain. “As a captain, I want Rohit Sharma to score runs. When he is successful at the crease, his decision-making improves,” he remarked.

“Regardless of a player’s stature, they always feel pressure regarding their performance. It’s undeniable that when a player is scoring runs, they tend to make more informed decisions. Let’s hope Rohit Sharma finds his rhythm so that his captaincy can flourish.”
