New Delhi, Jan 2 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium located in Pune is poised to host several home matches for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), according to sources familiar with the developments, as reported by IANS on Friday.
In a previous report from November, IANS mentioned that both RR and the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), were contenders for the Gahunje venue as their home ground ahead of IPL 2026. The Rajasthan Royals had even conducted a thorough inspection of the stadium along with an initial evaluation of the nearby amenities.
Sources indicate that it is more probable for RR to secure Pune as their home ground, effectively replacing Jaipur, which has been their base since the inception of IPL in 2008. "Negotiations between MCA and RR are progressing well, and numerous discussions are ongoing, making this a likely reality," sources further elaborated.
The decision by RR to relocate some of their home matches from their primary venue, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, stems from ongoing disputes with the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).
The situation intensified during IPL 2025 when an RCA official made serious allegations of match-fixing against the franchise, which RR vehemently denied while demanding strict action against the accuser.
Currently, the RCA is managed by an adhoc committee led by Deen Dayal Kumawat, and the lack of stability within the organization is also expected to influence RR's decision to play their home games in Pune.
As champions of IPL 2008, RR also has another home venue at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. “An official announcement from the BCCI regarding this development is expected imminently,” stated another source closely monitoring the situation.
The MCA Stadium in Pune has hosted international matches across all formats, including the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup and the Women’s T20 Challenge.
In the IPL, it has served as the home ground for various franchises such as Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings throughout different periods in the 2010s.
