Jaipur, May 18 (NationPress) Punjab Kings batsman Nehal Wadhera praised the team's batting lineup after they achieved a total of 219/5 against Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2025 match held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday.
Wadhera was instrumental in Punjab's impressive score, contributing a remarkable 70 runs off just 37 balls, featuring five sixes and five fours. He also partnered in two significant fifty-plus partnerships with captain Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh.
This marked Wadhera's second half-century of the season, while Iyer added a solid 30 runs. Shashank also impressed with a swift half-century off 27 balls, marking his second of the season.
Shashank finished unbeaten on 59, including three sixes and five fours, while Azmatullah Omarzai contributed 21 runs off nine balls. The duo successfully accumulated 60 runs in the last four overs, propelling Punjab to a formidable total in the afternoon fixture.
"It was fantastic batting today. I believe Shreyas bhai and I both played exceptionally well together. I think 220 is a very competitive score on this pitch. Shashank and Omarzai performed admirably towards the end," Wadhera remarked during the mid-innings break.
The 24-year-old emphasized that maintaining a positive mindset in capitalizing on loose balls has been key to their consistent high scoring throughout the season.
"The communication with the captain and coach has been straightforward. We need to capitalize on the loose balls, which is why we are frequently exceeding 200 runs. Our positive strategy has been beneficial. I believe our practices in the nets reflect in our game performance. Although it's quite hot today, the pitch looks promising. We have a strong bowling attack, and I am confident we will win this match," Wadhera added.
Other than Tushar Deshpande, who managed figures of 2-37 in his four overs, the home side struggled against Punjab's aggressive batting lineup.
A victory here would secure a playoff spot for Iyer's team, while Rajasthan is playing for pride after their elimination from the season.
