Manchester, July 10 (NationPress) After India's groundbreaking T20I series victory over England on their home turf, spinner Radha Yadav articulated that the team is experiencing a surge in confidence. She perceives this triumph as merely the commencement of an exciting journey ahead, as the squad is poised to accomplish something remarkable.
The Indian women's team achieved a historic first-ever T20I series win against England on their home ground, securing a comfortable six-wicket victory at Old Trafford on Thursday (IST), with one game remaining.
Although India faced England in their inaugural T20I matchup back in 2006, they had not triumphed in a T20I series against them until this landmark win at Old Trafford.
"The belief and commitment this time are truly different. The spirit of this team, the atmosphere – it feels magical, and we are genuinely onto something. We aspire to build something significant going forward, and this is the direction we intend to pursue.
"There are still numerous aspects we need to refine, and we are aware of that, but...this team is distinct and we are determined to excel regardless of the circumstances," Radha stated, as quoted by ICC.
India's spin duo, Radha and Shree Charani, who collectively took 4 wickets for 45 runs in eight overs, led the attack that limited England to 126 for 7 after they opted to bat for the second consecutive match.
In response, India's openers, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, laid the groundwork for a dominant victory with a 56-run partnership in just seven overs, before Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues secured India's first women's T20I series triumph in England.
Despite the series defeat, England's coach Charlotte Edwards remains optimistic that her team is on the right path towards success at the ICC Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka later this year.
"As long as we focus on improvement, I won’t panic. We will remain composed. We are a team on a journey, undergoing transition. It won’t happen overnight. We won't suddenly have this team performing to our expectations.
"But hopefully, we have time, especially in T20 cricket. You should witness a better team in ODI cricket, as that is our immediate goal for the 50-over World Cup coming in October," Edwards mentioned to Sky Sports after the match.
With India leading the series 3-1, the fifth and final T20I match between the two teams will take place in Birmingham on Saturday.
