Bali (Indonesia), July 8 (NationPress) In a nation where Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is still developing, Nagpur’s 21-year-old Raiwat Sagdeo is steadily carving his niche in the sport. His unwavering determination propelled him to pursue his dreams in this contact sport, even amidst his parents' initial skepticism.

“I worked hard in silence, and over time, my parents recognized my commitment. Eventually, they became my strongest supporters,” Sagdeo reflects on his career's beginnings.

Originating from a family with no ties to sports—his father is in the private sector while his mother is a homemaker—Sagdeo was first introduced to martial arts during school through taekwondo and karate classes as part of extracurricular activities.

After relocating to Chennai post-fifth grade, he nurtured a deeper passion for karate. At the age of 12, his disqualification for knocking out an opponent during a point-fighting karate competition made him realize he was destined for full-contact combat sports.

Sagdeo's confidence remained unshaken despite losing to an Iranian fighter in his first international bout on his amateur MMA debut, and an injury that tore his meniscus, MCL, and ACL. “I returned to the gym within two days, sitting on a stool and practicing my punches. Just three months later, I participated in a grappling tournament and fought in an MMA match a month after that,” he shares.

His latest achievements include victories at CFN 34 against a formidable opponent from the US and securing first place at the Bali Open grappling tournament.

Currently, he trains at Bali MMA under Aleksei Zhiganov, a respected figure in developing both professional and amateur fighters.

Inspired by Bruce Lee and Conor McGregor, he aims to turn professional this year, holding an amateur record of 4-2-0.

“The group of fighters surrounding me is strong and driven, all striving for greatness. With proper mentorship and relentless effort, we can achieve anything. This is just the beginning. I’m not seeking fame; I’m pursuing greatness,” he concluded.
