At the close of the day, a total of 44 gold medals had been awarded, with Tamil Nadu taking home 9, while Haryana followed with 7, and both Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh secured 5 each.

Originating from a farming family in Mannathampatty village, Tiruchirappalli, Shanguman faced a life-altering incident when he lost his legs in a lorry accident at the tender age of eight. Undeterred, he pursued sports, initially as a para basketball player before transitioning to wheelchair racing.

In an interview with SAI Media regarding his triumph at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shanguman expressed, "I have encountered numerous challenges in my life. My aspiration is to accomplish something significant. Each day passes, but the urge to carve out a name for myself persists. I must validate my abilities. My parents are elated. In the inaugural KIPG in 2023, I secured a bronze medal; this time, I achieved gold. My family’s unwavering support has been instrumental in my success."

Meanwhile, the para badminton competition continued on Day 2 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, featuring thrilling matches where Paris Paralympian Nitesh Kumar and Tokyo Paralympics Gold medallist Krishna Nagar showcased their prowess.
