Ahmedabad, Feb 12 (NationPress) England's experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid has dismissed India's star batsman Virat Kohli for the 11th time in international cricket during the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
With this wicket, Rashid has now entered the ranks of bowlers who have consistently troubled Kohli throughout his career. He is now on par with New Zealand's Tim Southee and Australia's Josh Hazlewood, both of whom have also claimed Kohli's wicket 11 times across all formats.
In the Ahmedabad match, Rashid cleverly deceived Kohli with a well-flighted delivery that turned sharply, resulting in an outside edge caught by wicketkeeper Phil Salt. This was the second consecutive match in which Rashid dismissed Kohli in a similar manner, having done so in the second ODI held in Pune.
Rashid's success against Kohli spans all three formats: five dismissals in ODIs, four in Tests, and two in T20Is. His ability to outsmart Kohli with variations and sharp turn has established him as one of the most effective spinners against the Indian icon.
Earlier in the game, Kohli scored his 73rd ODI half-century off fifty balls after opener Shubman Gill reached back-to-back half-centuries, quickly converting it to his seventh ODI century in 95 balls.
Last match's centurion, captain Rohit Sharma, was dismissed early on Wednesday, scoring only one run.
At the time of this report, India was at 214/2 in 30 overs, with Gill batting at 105 along with Shreyas Iyer, who was at 49.
