New Delhi, May 26 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Anil Kumble has pointed out that the wicket-taking skills of Gujarat Titans’ leg-spinner Rashid Khan appear to be lacking at the moment, leading to challenges in the team’s bowling performance.
This season, Rashid is experiencing one of his least successful runs in the IPL, having secured only nine wickets in 14 matches, with an average of 53.66 and an economy rate of 9.47. Kumble remarked, "When the initial six overs don’t go well for GT, the strain on the bowling unit becomes evident. This is where Rashid’s wicket-taking ability is noticeably absent, contributing to their struggles," during his commentary on ESPNcricinfo.
Kumble, who has played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and also served as a mentor for them and the Mumbai Indians, stressed that the Shubman Gill-led team must maintain composure and focus as they near the tournament's conclusion.
Despite already securing a playoff spot, GT has faced consecutive defeats against Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings. Kumble said, "It’s crucial to acknowledge all the positive aspects that have brought them this far."
He noted, "There were ten equally competitive teams. While the points table shows Chennai (CSK) at No. 10 and Rajasthan (RR) at nine, on paper, all teams are quite strong. A single match can change everything."
"Thus, it’s essential to celebrate the achievements and focus on winning one game at a time, whether it’s Qualifier or Eliminator, and reflect on how well the team performed during critical moments," he concluded.
