Ahmedabad, April 10 (NationPress) Much discussion has surrounded Rashid Khan’s recent performances in the IPL, but the renowned Afghanistan leg-spinner made a strong comeback during the Gujarat Titans’ 58-run victory against the Rajasthan Royals. He took key wickets of Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey, finishing with figures of 2-37 in four overs.
During the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Rashid expressed that his focus was on delivering balls in a good area, acknowledging that he had strayed from his typical line and length. “If you put in the effort, positive outcomes follow. It was a challenging pitch for both spinners and pacers alike. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our time as a bowling unit and as players,” he stated.
“There are high expectations from everyone. Performing well in every match is crucial. If you don’t excel in a game or two, people will have high expectations that it shouldn't be happening. With 126 IPL matches under my belt, I often wish to perform well, but sometimes it simply doesn’t work out,” Rashid shared.
“I focused on leaving my past matches and mistakes behind. I consulted with Sandy Bhai and the video analyst, as well as analyzing my performance with the coaches. I realized I was just off my typical line and length. It’s not that I wasn’t physically fit; I was mentally prepared. However, in the last two matches, my aim was to bowl accurately. The more I bowled, the better my performance got for myself and the team,” he explained to left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya in a video on iplt20.com.
Rashid also contributed with the bat, scoring a quick 12 runs as GT set a total of 217/6. He credited his batting improvement to consistent practice and support from head coach Ashish Nehra.
“Honestly, my batting has improved since joining GT. The reason is the ample opportunities I get to refine my batting skills, along with the confidence Ashish Bhai has shown in me. I practice my shots and aim to execute them in matches. When I receive a ball in my zone, I strive to finish games,” Rashid added.
Khejroliya stepped in as GT’s impact player, achieving figures of 1/29. He mentioned that Nehra had been advising him to stay prepared as his opportunity could arise unexpectedly. “Initially, I wasn’t included in the 15-man squad for this game. However, Ashu Bhai had been telling me to stay ready to play at any moment,” he said.
“Sometimes during warm-ups, injuries can occur, so preparedness is key. Before the match, I was ready to step in. As soon as the toss concluded, Bhaiya informed me that I was in the 15 and needed to play,” he continued.
“This preparation had been ongoing for the past 10-15 days. When I finally got a chance, it felt great to play again after two seasons. I had been telling Mohammed Siraj, Nishant Sindhu, and others that I would play in the match. You can ask them,” he concluded.
