RCB Captain Rajat Patidar Reflects on Close Loss to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 18 (NationPress) In a post-match analysis, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar expressed disappointment following the team's narrow six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026. He acknowledged that despite their efforts, they fell short by '15-20 runs', making it a challenging finish that went down to the wire.
RCB's bold approach culminated in a score of 175/8 on a sluggish pitch, with their middle order faltering against DC's exceptional bowling during the death overs. Although opener Phil Salt delivered an impressive 63 runs from 38 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes, RCB's momentum significantly decreased in the latter half of their innings as Delhi only allowed 29 runs in the final five overs.
“It was a close match, but I believe we were 15-20 runs short. The start we had, especially from VK bhai and Salt, was promising. However, after 12-13 overs, we lost several wickets in quick succession, which put us under pressure,” Patidar reflected in the post-match presentation.
This defeat marked RCB's first loss at home after a streak of five consecutive wins. Additionally, it was their third defeat in 11 day matches since 2022, with the team now holding a record of nine losses out of 15 matches played in their green attire.
When questioned about whether the batters might have been overly aggressive on a pitch that wasn't conducive for high scoring, Patidar responded, “I think the surface was slightly tacky, yet the fact that we took the game to the last over is a positive takeaway for us. I was discussing with the bowlers to be precise in their execution.”
Remaining optimistic despite the setback, Patidar stated, “This tournament is long, and we will analyze our mistakes to correct them moving forward.”
As defending champions, RCB now faces a six-day break before clashing with the IPL 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 24.
