Bengaluru, Jan 21 (NationPress) Venkatesh Prasad, President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), stated that the future of IPL 2026 matches returning to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is now up to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emphasizing that the ball is in their court.

The stadium has remained inactive for competitive cricket since June 4, when a tragic stampede claimed the lives of 11 fans during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 celebration outside the venue. The conditional approval comes as talks intensify regarding RCB potentially relocating their home games to Navi Mumbai or Raipur.

“Our priority is to resume hosting IPL matches, and it’s entirely up to RCB to respond. They need to coordinate with KSCA and the government of Karnataka. The ball is in their court. There are no definitive plans yet, and we have ongoing discussions. It’s time for them to reach out to us,” Prasad informed IANS on Wednesday.

He also expressed appreciation for the support from various stakeholders in granting the conditional approval to host matches again. “There’s still much work ahead. We’re halfway there, I would say. We have received the conditional letter, and I’m very thankful to the government of Karnataka, including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the Home Minister, who has been exceptionally supportive, given his passion for sports.

“We’ve had several discussions and meetings with the Honourable Home Minister. He has been remarkable and formed a committee to evaluate our progress and what needs to be accomplished. Everything is in place now,” added Prasad, a former Indian pacer.

He also discussed ongoing infrastructural improvements and expressed hope for their completion by the end of February. “Yes, it pertains to the entrances, exits, spectator areas, and services like the fire department, BESCOM, and others, which are mostly finished.

“Only a few aspects remain, with entry and exit being top priorities, ensuring fire engines can access the ground, and we are exploring how to manage that efficiently.

“We have established a timeline based on the recommendations we received. We are adhering to these timelines, and by the end of February, we expect to finalize everything,” he concluded.
