Will RCB Fans Receive Good News Soon Regarding International Matches at Chinnaswamy?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 9 (NationPress) The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) President and former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad has announced that fans of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) can expect positive updates in the coming two to three days. The Karnataka government will make a pivotal decision about hosting international cricket matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during a significant meeting set for February 11.
Following the tragic stampede incident during RCB's IPL title celebration on June 4, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives, the state government had previously withheld permission for cricket matches at this iconic venue.
After a meeting with Home Minister G. Parameshwara in Bengaluru on Monday, Venkatesh Prasad shared, “RCB supporters will receive good news in the next two or three days. We at KSCA have pledged to implement all safety and precautionary measures. We will meet all stipulated conditions. Our commitment is firm.”
“It’s encouraging that Home Minister Parameshwara engaged with a joint delegation, including RCB representatives. Their discussions have provided clarity for decision-making. We are optimistic about receiving good news soon,” Prasad remarked.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara noted, “Today, the KSCA office-bearers, including President Venkatesh Prasad and spokesperson Vinay Kumar, along with RCB representatives, met with me. Following the June 4 stampede, we established the Justice D’Cunha Commission to propose corrective actions. The report has now been submitted.”
“Based on its recommendations, we have outlined several requirements for KSCA and RCB, and a letter has been sent to them. A government-level committee has been formed to oversee implementation. The committee includes Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Commissioner Maheshwara Rao and Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh,” he stated.
“We have tasked the committee with visiting the stadium to ensure that corrective measures are implemented, along with setting timelines and related issues. The committee has issued directives and provided 17 specific points to be addressed. Meanwhile, with the IPL tournament underway and international matches on the horizon, if clearance is granted, Bengaluru will be a candidate for match scheduling. They have submitted a representation in this regard,” HM Parameshwara added.
“I have given them until Wednesday. Our officials, including the GBA Commissioner and Police Commissioner, will convene a meeting to assess how many obligations have been fulfilled before deciding on allowing cricket matches,” he continued.
“We recognize that the public is eager for cricket matches in Bengaluru. However, safety is paramount, particularly given the tragic loss of 11 lives. Such incidents must not happen again. These matters will be thoroughly discussed on Wednesday,” HM Parameshwara concluded.
