Bengaluru, March 3 (NationPress) The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the defending champions, are set to make a comeback to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the IPL 2026, as the Karnataka state government has approved the hosting of five home matches in Bengaluru this season.

Additionally, the remaining two matches of their IPL 2026 journey will be held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, adhering to prior commitments.

This announcement comes as a relief for RCB, especially after the tragic stampede incident near the stadium due to mismanagement during the celebration of their first IPL title last year. The Karnataka government launched an inquiry into the incident, resulting in a temporary suspension of all activities at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and prompting the franchise to seek alternative venues.

However, after a thorough review and stabilization of the situation, the government has recently given the green light for matches to be played at the iconic stadium.

“This achievement follows months of diligent work and collaboration among various authorities, all aiming to restore the games to our home ground for the fans,” RCB stated in a press release on Tuesday.

RCB management expressed heartfelt thanks to the Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and the Karnataka Police for their steadfast support and cooperation in making the hosting of matches in Bengaluru possible. The collective efforts to enhance infrastructure and safety protocols ahead of the IPL season ensure that defending champions will primarily play on their home turf.

The IPL Governing Council is expected to unveil the complete schedule for the 2026 edition of this grand event following the conclusion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
