New Delhi, Nov 6 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have officially named Malolan Rangarajan as the head coach for the forthcoming tournament season.
This decision follows the unavailability of Luke Williams, RCB’s previous head coach during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, due to his obligations with Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL).
"Malolan Rangarajan, a vital component of the RCB support structure for the past six years, has now ascended to the position of head coach for the upcoming WPL cycle," RCB announced via a post on social media platform X.
Rangarajan previously held the role of assistant coach during RCB’s last two seasons, including the team’s historic title-winning journey in 2024.
A former cricketer representing Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand in domestic cricket, Rangarajan has played a significant role in the evolution of the RCB Men’s team. He has worked closely with prominent figures such as Sanjay Bangar, Mike Hesson, Dinesh Karthik, Simon Katich, and Andy Flower.
On his new appointment, Rangarajan expressed, “I’m truly thrilled and honoured to take on the role of Head Coach for the women’s team. I’d like to acknowledge Luke’s contributions that led to RCB’s title victory in 2024. The upcoming mega auction poses an exciting challenge, allowing us to shape the next chapter of the squad while retaining a strong core.”
He further stated, “In the past three years, I’ve built a solid working relationship with Smriti, along with the coaching and support staff, and I’m eager to continue that collaboration to achieve the success that RCB fans rightfully deserve.”
RCB captain and star batter Smriti Mandhana shared her sentiments regarding the appointment, saying, “I extend my congratulations to Malolan Rangarajan on his new role as Head Coach of RCB in the WPL. We share a great rapport, and I have enjoyed our cricketing conversations. He has positively influenced the team over the last three years, and I’m confident in our ability to work together to lead RCB to success in the upcoming season.”
Reflecting on this development, Rajesh Menon, Chief Operating Officer of RCB, remarked, “Malolan has been a crucial part of RCB’s growth journey, and his elevation to Head Coach is a natural progression. Being part of the RCB Women’s team since its inaugural season, he possesses a profound understanding of the team’s culture. This aligns with our vision for the club, and Malo is well-versed in RCB’s unique style of play.”
RCB has experienced a mixed bag of results in the WPL thus far, finishing fourth in 2023 and 2025, interspersed by their groundbreaking title triumph in 2024, which occurred just before the men’s team achieved a historic victory in the IPL in 2025.
