Is it crucial to strike the right balance between training and time off? Insights from RCB head coach ahead of the final.
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vadodara, Jan 30 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) head coach Malolan Rangarajan emphasized that finding the right equilibrium between preparation and time off is essential as they gear up for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final. This comes after RCB secured direct qualification following a commanding league-stage performance, culminating in an impressive eight-wicket win over UP Warriorz.
With the title match just under a week away, Rangarajan highlighted the significance of giving players the mental space needed before they refocus on the final showdown.
"We have approximately six days leading up to the final, and achieving the right mix between training and relaxation is crucial. I prefer that the players take a break from thoughts about the final for a few days to return refreshed and eager," he remarked in a video shared by WPL on X.
Reflecting on RCB's consistent performance, the head coach mentioned that finishing at the top with a considerable points margin compared to other teams demonstrates their collective effort throughout the season.
"Securing the purple cap is commendable, but the main goal is reaching the final. It’s challenging in this league, and the gap we’ve established speaks volumes about the team's cohesion," Rangarajan noted.
He also praised captain Smriti Mandhana, recognizing her tactical acumen and leadership both on and off the field. He shared that Mandhana had been closely monitoring Grace Harris during practice, which ultimately contributed to Harris taking two crucial wickets.
“Smriti was already picking up cues in training. It was impressive to see her interpret the game so effectively and apply it during the match,” he said.
The coach commended Mandhana’s comprehensive leadership, highlighting her poise during the chase against the Warriors, where she remained not out at 54. “She led excellently on the field and ensured she was present at the critical moment with the bat when we shifted the game in our favor," Rangarajan added.
Despite the excellent performances, the head coach believes there’s still potential for enhancement in their bowling.
“As a bowling unit, we executed several aspects well, yet there are areas we can improve. Overall, it was a strong showing, and I’m very pleased with the girls,” he stated, as RCB sets their sights on another WPL title.
