Vadodara, Jan 22 (NationPress) Captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Smriti Mandhana, expressed on Thursday that the definitive roles within the team have played a crucial role in their remarkable start to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. RCB has become the first team to secure a playoff spot after triumphing in all five of their games thus far.

Reflecting on this commendable beginning in the tournament, Mandhana stated, “We are thrilled with how our campaign has unfolded so far. We have adhered to our processes and focused on one match at a time. The morale within the team is elevated, and the atmosphere has been fantastic.”

Smriti elaborated on how the contributions from every player have kept the team in a leading position. “It’s been essential for every member to contribute. Beyond individual Player of the Match accolades, players have risen to the occasion whenever needed,” the captain highlighted.

“In each match, we have discovered ways to secure victories, even in challenging situations, and our capability to finalize results, despite some ups and downs, is a positive indicator for any team,” she added.

The 29-year-old also shared her thoughts on the team culture and its influence on their performance. “There is a strong belief within our group, and the squad is collaborating well. We owe a lot to our coaching staff and management for fostering an environment where everyone brings the same level of intensity,” she remarked.

“Even during training sessions, players are eager to push themselves further, which is evident in the diverse performances we've showcased, whether from seasoned players like Nadine or newcomers like Gautami,” she noted.

Smriti acknowledged the management for assembling a robust squad during the auction. She mentioned, “Coming out of the auction, it was evident that we had positioned ourselves with numerous options. This was the initial step, and the players' execution of their roles has been pivotal in our success. The clarity surrounding roles has significantly impacted our performance.”

The champion captain also praised the team's bowling depth for their achievements. “With bowlers like Nadine de Klerk, Lauren Bell, and Shreyanka Patil taking wickets, it inherently applies pressure on the opponents. Additionally, other players like Sayali, Arundhati, and Prema have been crucial in providing balance and depth, which boosts our confidence moving forward,” she concluded.

RCB is set to face the Delhi Capitals in their next match on Saturday at the BCA Stadium.
