Vadodara, Feb 18 (NationPress) Former West Indies cricketer Stacy-Ann King lauded Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Smriti Mandhana for her brilliant performance against Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2025 match, stating that the left-handed batswoman truly exemplified leadership.

Smriti scored 81 runs off 47 balls, marking her highest score in the WPL, as RCB triumphed over DC by eight wickets to maintain their unbeaten streak in the current season.

She showcased an exhibition of stylish strokeplay, demonstrating exquisite timing and placement, hitting ten fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 172.34.

"Her performance was remarkable tonight. The way she maneuvered and executed her shots was exceptional. We witnessed numerous strokes on the leg side, but her grace on the off side was truly commendable. She pierced the field with accuracy, going over the top when necessary. After not scoring in the last match, she made amends today, leading effectively as a true captain," stated Stacy-Ann JioHotstar.

Following a stellar bowling display where Renuka Singh Thakur and Georgia Wareham each took three wickets, RCB bowled out DC for 141. Smriti and Danni Wyatt-Hodge launched an aggressive assault, forging a 107-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Former India captain Mithali Raj shared her perspective on RCB's commanding performance, saying, "From the very first over when Renuka Singh dismissed Shafali Varma, RCB was in control. Smriti Mandhana has made no mistakes since then. Each bowling change she initiated resulted in breakthroughs. The way she guided the innings alongside Danni Wyatt laid a robust foundation for their batting lineup."

Mithali further emphasized the importance of Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s 42-run innings, noting, "She appeared a little cautious initially, but once she found her rhythm, she settled in. The way she raised her bat and accumulated runs demonstrated her class. As the innings advanced, she played with increasing assurance, adapting to every change and variation from the opposition. Her confidence grew as she capitalized on every opportunity."

Discussing the shortcomings of Delhi Capitals, Stacy-Ann remarked, "They failed to reach their target, primarily due to crucial wicket losses. While they had some big overs, they couldn't maximize their scoring chances.

"The loss of pivotal wickets at critical junctures stunted their momentum, impacting both their run rate and their capacity to forge solid partnerships. Moving forward, they must concentrate on building strong partnerships for improved outcomes."

With their victory on Monday night, RCB ascends to the top of the points table, while Delhi Capitals sit in third place with one win from two matches.
