Did Shreyanka Patil Dedicate WPL 2026 Win to Smriti for Her Struggles?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vadodara, Feb 6 (NationPress) Shreyanka Patil, an off-spin bowling all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, expressed that their victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 was exceptionally significant and dedicated the win to captain Smriti Mandhana, highlighting the difficulties she has encountered over recent months.
RCB secured their second WPL title with a six-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, thanks to Smriti’s impressive 87 and Georgia Voll’s 79, which were pivotal in their successful chase. “I want to acknowledge three individuals - first and foremost, Smriti, because she has endured a lot recently. This win is for her,” Shreyanka stated to broadcasters following the victory.
“Also, Malo and Anya. Today is Anya's son's first birthday. Additionally, Malo is leading as head coach for the first time, making this win special for everyone involved,” Shreyanka added.
Returning to the team this season after recovering from a shin injury, Shreyanka described the victory as particularly meaningful. “This season marks my comeback to WPL. I couldn’t have wished for a better outcome. The crowd was wonderful, supporting us unwaveringly, regardless of the situation. Even with 200 runs on the board, they had faith and belief in us,” she said.
She remarked on the positive atmosphere in the dugout, which was crucial in achieving their target of 204 runs. “Once the first innings ended, Aru (Arundhati Reddy) and I confidently walked towards the dugout, believing we could pull it off. That positive vibe has been a constant throughout the season—whether we win or lose, we always maintain a smile,” Shreyanka shared.
Looking back at the thrilling conclusion of the match, Shreyanka admitted she was amazed by the dramatic finish. “I’m still in disbelief—the last ball, the bails fell, and the ball rolled to the boundary. I was uncertain, asking, ‘Is it a hit wicket? Is it a boundary? What should I do?’ and then Malo confirmed, ‘We won,’” she recounted.
Radha Yadav, a left-arm spin bowling all-rounder who hit the winning runs, praised the management for their unwavering support and preparation for high-pressure scenarios. “Everyone is thrilled. This team has put in tremendous effort. The management has supported us beyond our expectations. This victory is for them,” she remarked.
“As players, we strive hard—sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. But the diligence exhibited by the management deserves recognition. We engaged in situational practice to achieve specific run targets within limited balls. Their guidance has been invaluable,” she added.
Radha noted that the team benefited from a short break leading up to the final. “I can improve. I haven’t yet performed to my full potential. I will continue to work hard; perhaps I’ll lead us to a World Cup. We took a little trip recently, stepping away from cricket entirely for a few days. The management decided we needed this time off to return refreshed and energized. Regarding where this win ranks for me, it’s my first IPL title. The World Cup holds the top spot, but this comes in second place,” she concluded.
