WPL 2026: Is Shreyanka Patil Overjoyed After Her First Five-Wicket Haul in T20s?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Navi Mumbai, Jan 16 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) off-spin bowling all-rounder Shreyanka Patil expressed her immense joy after achieving her first five-wicket haul in T20s, leading her team to a 32-run victory against the Gujarat Giants and maintaining their unbeaten streak in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL).
At the DY Patil Stadium, Shreyanka delivered an impressive performance, taking 5 wickets for just 23 runs, making her the youngest bowler to secure a five-wicket haul in WPL history as RCB climbed to the top of the points table. “I must credit Radha for her innings; without her contribution, we wouldn't have posted such a solid total,” she remarked.
“I’m thrilled with how Richa and Radha played despite being four down at 44/4. Their innings had a significant impact and boosted our confidence as we aimed for a total between 170-180, knowing that dew would be a crucial factor,” Shreyanka added.
Reflecting on her return after more than a year away from the game, which caused her to miss the 2025 WPL, Shreyanka shared that her support system played a vital role in her comeback. “It’s been a personal rollercoaster for me. I’ve emerged stronger thanks to my family, coaches, and friends who have been incredibly supportive,” she stated.
“Being away from cricket for 14 months was challenging, but I am passionate about the game and eager to be back on the field. My preparation over the past month with Arjun sir in Bangalore has been extensive, and I’m pleased to see my hard work paying off,” she emphasized.
Shreyanka identifies as an attacking bowler focused on taking wickets rather than merely containing runs. “I thrive on being a wicket-taker, and the drift and turn I achieve are crucial elements of my bowling style,” she explained.
She highlighted the importance of simplicity in her approach to achieving her five-wicket haul. “I kept my strategy straightforward. My stock ball has been effective on this wicket, and I concentrated on delivering off-spinners, particularly against left-handers, which has always been an advantage for me,” she concluded.
