New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has successfully undergone surgery to address a persistent shoulder problem and is anticipated to be out of action for a minimum of six weeks, causing him to miss the commencement of La Liga.
Bellingham has been dealing with shoulder discomfort since November 2023, following a dislocation during a La Liga match. Since then, he has been playing with a brace concealed beneath his shirt. He chose to postpone the surgery until after the FIFA Club World Cup to participate in that tournament, where his team was eliminated in the semifinals by the eventual runners-up, Paris Saint-Germain.
In an official statement, the club confirmed, "Jude Bellingham has successfully undergone surgery today to fix the recurrent dislocation of his left shoulder. The procedure was conducted by doctors Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, supervised by the Real Madrid Medical Services. Bellingham will now enter a rehabilitation phase before resuming training and recovery."
The Spanish club, now under the management of Xabi Alonso, is set to kick off their La Liga season at home against Osasuna on August 19. Bellingham is also likely to miss several Champions League matches and potentially England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
Since joining Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham has made 100 appearances across all competitions, achieving this milestone against PSG in his last outing. He has started in all but four of those matches, netting 38 goals and providing 27 assists for Los Blancos since his debut season in 2023-2024.
While Bellingham is expected to return in time for the first Clasico of the season against Barcelona in late October, he will likely miss the derby against Atletico Madrid on September 29 (AEST).
