New Delhi, Aug 16 (NationPress) Manchester City’s latest addition, central midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, is thrilled to embark on his Premier League journey, stating that joining the illustrious club was an “easy decision” due to its prestige and the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola.

In an exclusive interview with JioHotstar ahead of the 2025–26 season, the Dutch international expressed his enthusiasm for the challenges that lie ahead. “I’m really looking forward to the Premier League. I believe it is the pinnacle of football competition, and I can’t wait to start,” he remarked.

When questioned about his choice to sign with City, Reijnders was clear. “It’s one of the biggest clubs globally, so ultimately, it was a straightforward decision. Competing for trophies every year in the Premier League is what draws me in the most.”

For the 26-year-old, donning the City jersey holds significant pride. “It’s a beautiful kit, and wearing it is always a moment of pride,” he noted.

A major factor in his transfer is the opportunity to learn from Guardiola, a manager he deeply respects. “It’s a source of pride. He’s one of the top coaches, and it feels fantastic to play under him and absorb new insights,” he added.

Reijnders reflected on his early football journey, reminiscing about how his passion ignited as a child. “It started when I was very young. I would always be playing football in the garden, nurturing the dream of becoming a professional player. By 12 or 13, I began to realize what it took to achieve that dream, and that’s when I knew it was possible.”

Growing up, his heart was with Barcelona, inspired by legendary players Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta. “When I was younger, it was Barcelona, especially because of Messi and Iniesta. They were my idols. I started with Ronaldinho, and then it was all about Lionel Messi,” he shared.

Having already experienced English football through European competitions, Reijnders is aware of the intensity required. “It’s much more physical, and the pace of the game is quicker; that’s my experience. I expect the same in the Premier League. It’s fantastic to play at this level,” he remarked.

Looking ahead to his debut season, he emphasized his desire to make a mark in midfield. “I’m eager for the midfield battles against my direct opponent, showcasing my strengths, getting into the box, and contributing to the team with goals or assists,” he stated.

One of his role models in that position has been Kevin De Bruyne, whose style he has closely observed. “Kevin De Bruyne always scans the pitch, knowing exactly where to play the ball when he receives it. I aim to incorporate that into my game, constantly being aware of space. It’s incredibly helpful,” he explained.

Reijnders also discussed the qualities he believes characterize a well-rounded midfielder: “Passing technique, dribbling, and the ability to score or assist,” he concluded.
