Melbourne, Jan 28 (NationPress) The Melbourne Renegades have secured the services of pacer Jason Behrendorff for the upcoming three seasons of the Big Bash League. This signing comes through the inaugural BBL Player Movement Window, which became active on Tuesday, allowing teams to recruit eligible free agents as well as trade uncontracted players or draft picks.
Behrendorff, recognized as one of the league's most effective bowlers, transitions to the Renegades after a decade with Perth Scorchers and a stellar performance in BBL 14, where he led the league in wicket-taking with 17 dismissals.
The left-arm fast bowler has participated in 105 matches with the Perth Scorchers, accumulating 137 wickets—making him the fifth highest in the history of the league—with an impressive strike rate of 16.73. Throughout his 13-year career, he has claimed four BBL championships with the Scorchers.
With a reputation for his raw speed and expertise with the new ball, Behrendorff’s addition enhances the Renegades’ bowling lineup, which also includes Golden Arm runner-up Tom Rogers.
"Relocating to Melbourne has been a goal for my wife, Juvelle, and me, whether I was nearing the end of my career or not. To continue playing cricket in a city we cherish is truly a gift," Behrendorff expressed. "I am genuinely looking forward to this new chapter with the Melbourne Renegades, which is equally important for my family."
Behrendorff’s standing in white-ball cricket is well-established, having made 29 appearances for the Australian national team—earning the title of T20 Player of the Year in the 2023/24 summer—and competing in various T20 leagues globally, including the Indian Premier League.
The Melbourne Renegades have now bolstered their squad, adding Behrendorff to the nine players who were already under contract prior to the signing deadlines.
