Is Matt Renshaw Ready to Elevate His Game?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, July 1 (NationPress) Matt Renshaw is poised to embark on what he describes as the second phase of his professional journey as he prepares to participate in the white-ball segment of the Australia A series against Sri Lanka A in Darwin next week.
After taking a break from the sport for a few months following the arrival of his second child in April, Renshaw feels that the paternity leave provided him with the much-needed time and distance from his profession.
"I refrained from picking up a bat for 8-10 weeks, which is the longest break I've taken in a significant time. The last four years have been nonstop cricket, and now I've had a few months to reflect and remember why I love this game. I even found myself sitting at home pondering: What is happening with my batting? What am I doing right or wrong?"
"Engaging in discussions with key individuals about my technique and style of play has been incredibly advantageous. While playing consistently is essential, I believe this break has been a tremendous benefit for me," Renshaw expressed in an interview with cricket.com.au.
Renshaw stands out as the only player to have scored centuries from the middle-order in each of the last three domestic one-day tournaments, maintaining an impressive average of 47.50 with a strike rate just above 100.
"I feel like I still have a lot to contribute. I've spent a decade in the game … I've witnessed a lot and played around 120 first-class matches. Timing and luck are significant factors, but I believe I am ready to elevate my game to a new level."
Australia A will compete in three one-day matches against the Sri Lankans before switching to whites for two four-day first-class fixtures. The series kicks off on July 4.
