New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) The captain of India, Rohit Sharma, expressed confidence in his abilities after rediscovering his form with a remarkable century in the second ODI against England at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.

Despite facing significant criticism for his recent performances in the last two Test series against New Zealand and Australia, the 37-year-old opener struggled in the first ODI of the series in Nagpur, scoring merely two runs.

Nevertheless, he made a spectacular comeback, scoring 119 runs off 90 balls, featuring 12 fours and 7 sixes, leading India to a second successive victory in the series, putting them in a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Rohit stated in a BCCI video, "When individuals have played for many years and accumulated substantial runs, that holds significance."

The right-handed batsman reiterated that external criticism does not sway him, emphasizing that a couple of poor scores will not alter his perspective.

"Having played this game for a long time, I comprehend what is expected of me. It's simply about going out there and executing my game, and what I did today was part of that. In my mind, it was solely about performing my usual approach. I have been around long enough to know that one or two low scores won’t change my outlook. Just another day at work," Rohit remarked.

He further elaborated on the importance of maintaining mental clarity during challenging periods, stating that concentrating on past achievements can facilitate scoring runs, albeit acknowledging its complexity.

"It varies; sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don’t. As long as I am clear about my objectives, that’s what counts. Everything else is secondary," Rohit articulated.

"Having scored numerous runs signifies accomplishment. You simply need to revert to the mindset of accumulating runs. It seems straightforward, but it’s quite challenging. However, in my mind, it was about relishing the moment. That’s the essence of the sport: to enjoy the game above all else," he concluded.
