New Delhi, May 7 (NationPress) In the wake of Indian captain Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket, former players and teams took to social media to express their gratitude towards the 38-year-old for his remarkable 12-year journey with the national side.
One of the earliest messages came from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), the institution that played a pivotal role in Rohit's ascent in cricket.
“Mumbai cha Raja (The King of Mumbai) bids farewell to his Test whites. Whether it was smashing fast bowlers into the stands or leading with a composed demeanor — Rohit Sharma’s Test career was a spectacle to behold, inspiring every cheer and celebration,” the MCA tweeted.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its pride, stating, “Thank you, Captain. An era in whites comes to a close! @ImRo45 says goodbye to Test cricket but continues to lead India in ODIs. We are proud of you, Hitman.”
Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant mentioned that Rohit's influence will resonate in the team’s locker room for years to come.
“Your presence and impact will resonate in that dressing room eternally. Much love, @rohitsharma45 bhai,” Pant shared on Instagram.
Dhruv Jurel, who made his Test debut under Rohit during the 2024 Test series against England, also extended his wishes for a happy retirement.
“Always my first captain, Happy Retirement Rohit Bhaiya,” Jurel posted.
Rohit concludes his Test career with a total of 4,301 runs from 67 Tests, averaging 40.57, which includes 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. He was appointed captain in 2022 after Virat Kohli stepped down from the role. Rohit led India in 24 Tests, achieving 12 victories and facing nine defeats, including the loss in the 2023 WTC final against Australia.
“Congratulations @ImRo45 on your Test career. The 2021 Test series in England will be remembered for your heroics. Best wishes for your next chapter,” Irfan Pathan tweeted.
“End of an era! @ImRo45, your determination, poise, and leadership in Test cricket will always be a significant part of India’s cricket narrative. Thank you for the memories, Captain! #RohitSharma,” Parthiv Patel commented.
“Congratulations on a legendary Test career, @ImRo45. You’ve made India proud. Wishing you all the best for your ODI journey. God bless you,” Amit Mishra posted.
