Mumbai, Jan 19 (NationPress) After successfully bringing two ICC trophies to the Wankhede Stadium—the 2007 T20 World Cup as a team member and the 2024 T20 World Cup as captain—India's skipper Rohit Sharma declared on Sunday his commitment to strive for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy to make its way to this iconic venue for another grand celebration.

As the 2025 Champions Trophy was showcased on stage, Rohit reminisced that one of the most treasured moments of his life was bringing the 2024 T20 World Cup to the Wankhede Stadium after an open-top bus parade around Marine Drive.

"I am confident that when we set foot in Dubai, the hopes of 140 crore fans will accompany us. We will endeavor to clinch the ICC Champions Trophy and bring it back here to the Wankhede," expressed Rohit.

The 37-year-old made this pledge during a gathering hosted by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to commemorate 50 years of the Wankhede Stadium.

The Champions Trophy, currently on a Trophy Tour across participating nations, was presented at the Wankhede to celebrate this milestone. Rohit was joined on stage by cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri, Sachin Tendulkar, Diana Edulji, and Ajinkya Rahane, all of whom have captained India in various formats.

On this occasion, the Indian captain also reflected on his initial visit to the Wankhede Stadium and how that experience fueled his ambition to represent the country.

India is set to kick off their Champions Trophy journey against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20, followed by matches against fierce rivals Pakistan and New Zealand on February 23 and March 2, respectively. The 15-member squad for the prestigious eight-team tournament was announced on Saturday.
