New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has come forward in support of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is reportedly set to depart his childhood club for Real Madrid this summer. The former English striker disclosed that he also felt the allure of a transfer to Spain and empathizes with the wing-back's predicament.

Real Madrid is aiming to finalize a pre-contract agreement with Trent Alexander-Arnold quickly. The English defender has been on the radar of Los Blancos for the past two years, with discussions ongoing between both sides to secure a deal ahead of the season's conclusion.

Rooney stated, "If Trent Alexander-Arnold makes the switch to Real Madrid this summer, I completely support him. I once considered a significant move to Spain as well. If he were to leave Liverpool for any other club, one might question his decision, but in the case of Real, it’s a career move that’s hard to dispute.

Real Madrid boasts a storied history as the world's premier football club, making it an incredible opportunity; I would understand why he would feel compelled to accept such an offer," Rooney expressed in a column for BBC.

As reported in October, Madrid identified Trent as their key transfer target for the upcoming season. Los Blancos are looking to strengthen their defense at the end of this season, and they hold Trent in high regard, especially since he will be a free agent in June.

Alongside Trent, Mohammed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk are also nearing the end of their contracts. These three players have been integral to Liverpool's success for nearly a decade. The Anfield club risks losing their core players for nothing after failing to reach agreements.

Trent has made 349 appearances for his boyhood club, netting 22 goals and providing 87 assists.

Real Madrid is certainly looking to bolster their squad, especially given the ongoing injury crisis. With Carvajal sidelined due to an ACL injury for the rest of the season, they are also missing Ferlan Mendy and Eder Militao.

Rooney also shared, "When I informed Manchester United in 2010 that I did not wish to renew my contract and submitted a transfer request, three clubs showed interest. While Manchester City is often mentioned, I don’t believe they were a viable option for me. The clubs that approached were Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. I was mentally prepared to play in Spain, and negotiations did occur," he recalled.
