New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) Former England head coach Chris Silverwood expressed his delight in observing England's captivating cricket style, known as Bazball, in Test matches since his successor Brendon McCullum took the helm.
Silverwood assumed the role of England's head coach in October 2019 after Trevor Bayliss completed his term. He held the position for two and a half years before concluding his tenure in February 2022, following a challenging 4-0 defeat in the Ashes series against Australia.
“It wasn’t easy at times. There were some commendable outcomes, but the Ashes series was particularly tough, and performances are often evaluated based on Ashes results. It was challenging for everyone involved; we faced some difficult conditions, but I don't want to dwell on the past,” Silverwood remarked.
“Currently, they are performing exceptionally well. They have been playing some entertaining cricket, and I have found joy in watching their games. As I mentioned previously, even after my departure, I remain a devoted fan of England and wish them every success. I still maintain friendships with many players in the dressing room,” Silverwood stated, as reported by inews.co.uk.
Following his time with England, Silverwood took on the role of head coach for Sri Lanka, where he achieved notable success, including winning the 2022 T20 Asia Cup and finishing as runners-up in the 2023 ODI Asia Cup. He fondly recalled the memory of Sri Lanka defeating England in Bengaluru during the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup.
“That was a remarkable moment. England boasted exceptional players, and our performance showcased the team’s potential. The Sri Lanka squad developed momentum, excelling in bilateral series at home and performing admirably in the World Cup qualifiers.
“Unfortunately, there were crucial moments in significant matches that didn’t go our way. However, everything aligned perfectly for that game. Our game plan worked, which is reflected in Sri Lanka's current position in the world rankings, even though they are still striving for more consistency,” he added.
“I continue to follow them closely, and they have played some outstanding cricket. I stay in contact with many players and truly wish to see them succeed, as there are fantastic individuals in the team,” he concluded.
