Kolkata, Nov 14 (NationPress) Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj recognized that achieving runs is quite challenging for batters after the home side limited South Africa to 159 runs on the first day of the inaugural Test match at Eden Gardens on Friday.

Jasprit Bumrah led the pace attack with impressive figures of 5-27 in his 17 overs, while both Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj claimed two wickets each to dismantle South Africa's batting lineup.

After the day's play concluded, Siraj noted that while the new ball was moving well, the bounce diminished significantly once the ball became softer.

"The new ball was coming onto the bat nicely, but as it softened, the bounce dropped as well. My strategy was to bowl full and target the stumps. There was some reverse swing available; if you bowl stump-to-stump, you have better chances for wickets, making it hard for batters to score runs. One end is easier for batting, while the other has unpredictable bounce, making it difficult to score," Siraj commented.

Siraj also shared insights on Bumrah's advice during his spell and how he incorporated it into his game.

“Jassi bhai advised that the wicket-taking option lies in targeting the stumps, as it opens up LBW, bowled, and even catching opportunities with accurate line,” he explained.

Siraj concluded that India is in a favorable position, ending the day at 37/1 with KL Rahul (13 not out) and Washington Sundar (6 not out) at the crease, trailing by 122 runs.

“We find ourselves in a good position having lost only one wicket. Earlier, Markram and Rickelton built a solid partnership, but we managed to bounce back, and I believe we are currently ahead in the match,” Siraj added.
