New Delhi, Jan 21 (NationPress) Just before the initial T20I against England at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav reminisced about his time with the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir and expressed his love for the Bengali dessert 'mishti doi'.

Having debuted in the IPL with Mumbai Indians in 2012, Suryakumar moved to KKR and played for the franchise from 2014 to 2017. Under Gambhir's captaincy, KKR secured their first title in 2014, with Suryakumar being a member of that championship squad.

"When I arrived in Kolkata, the locals generously offered me 'mishti doi'. Nowadays, when I return, I make sure to have it as part of my cheat meal. It gives me a nostalgic feeling and it's always enjoyable to be here. The weather is pleasant, and we can expect a thrilling match from both teams," Suryakumar shared in a video released by BCCI on X.

The Indian captain mentioned that he never envisioned leading India at Eden Gardens, which was once his home ground during IPL seasons. He also noted his familiarity with the venue and the valuable lessons he learned from Gambhir.

"In 2014, when I first joined KKR, I never imagined I would be leading India a decade later. It's a remarkable experience to captain India at this iconic venue. Reflecting on my journey and memories from playing here between 2014 and 2017 is truly special. I played under Gauti bhai and gained a lot of insights, so I know this place well. I’m thrilled to be back," the Indian captain expressed.

The opening T20I of the five-match series is set to take place at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
