SMAT: Abhishek Sharma Matches Record for Quickest T20 Century by an Indian

Rajkot, Dec 5 (NationPress) Captain Abhishek Sharma matched the record for the quickest T20 century by an Indian batsman, scoring an incredible 100 off merely 28 balls for Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) game against Meghalaya at the Niranjan Shah Stadium C on Thursday.

With his unbeaten score of 106 off 29 balls, featuring 11 sixes and eight fours, Abhishek matched the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian batter alongside Urvil Patel of Gujarat, who achieved a 28-ball century against Tripura earlier in this tournament in Indore.

In pursuit of a modest target of 143, Abhishek reached his half-century in just 12 balls before hitting the historic milestone in only 28 balls, as Punjab successfully chased down the target in a mere 9.3 overs.

This remarkable innings ended his recent slump in the tournament, where he had tallied 149 runs in his last six innings, surpassing fifty only once.

In addition to his batting prowess, Abhishek also took two wickets in his four-over spell, conceding 24 runs at an economy rate of 6, as Punjab limited Meghalaya to 142-7 in 20 overs.

On a global scale, Abhishek's achievement positions him just behind the all-time fastest T20 century, a 27-ball performance by Sahil Chauhan from Estonia against Cyprus.
