Ranchi, Jan 23 (NationPress) JSW Soorma Hockey Club stands on the brink of securing a spot in the final of the Women’s Hockey India League 2024-25. To move forward, they must earn at least one point against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Friday.

“Our strategy throughout this campaign has been to aim for victory in every match. Currently, our focus is solely on the game against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers. It’s the most critical match for us right now, so we are concentrating on one game at a time. Once this match is concluded, we will plan our next moves,” said head coach Jude Menezes before the game.

Soorma has been performing exceptionally well in the league, leading the table with three wins and one draw, accumulating 10 points ahead of their final pool stage match. Sonam has been outstanding in attack, netting four goals in five matches, while Charlotte Englebert has contributed two goals. Notably, all of their 11 goals have been scored from open play, as teams across the league have struggled to convert penalty corners.

“We are finding it challenging with the initial trap. This seems to be a common issue among teams; not many penalty corners have been scored across the league. We need to continue improving in that area, but we are a strong unit with solid forwards and a compact defense. With the talent in our forward line, we have the potential to score,” he explained.

In their previous encounter with the Tigers, Soorma overturned a one-goal deficit to secure a convincing 4-1 victory in their opening match of the campaign. Olivia Shannon, Charlotte Englebert, captain Salima Tete, and Sonam all scored, showcasing a well-rounded performance.

“Once again, our goal will be to achieve positive results in the shooting circle, score goals, and maintain a dynamic, aggressive attacking style that aligns with our gameplay,” he concluded.
