Madurai, Dec 1 (NationPress) Head coach of the Indian junior men's team, P.R. Sreejesh, emphasizes the necessity for the squad to perform at their best and uphold their confidence to capture the Junior World Cup title.
On Tuesday, the Indian team will face Switzerland in their concluding league match of the FIH Junior Men’s World Cup 2025. Ranked 26th, Switzerland could be the Indian team's only match in Madurai, as they are poised to secure the top position in their group and progress to the knockout stages in Chennai.
"Preparing for the Junior World Cup demands that you give your absolute best and aspire to victory. Hence, maintaining high confidence and playing our usual game is crucial to winning the tournament," Sreejesh stated while discussing India's performance and their chances of clinching the title.
The Indian Junior Men's Hockey Team commenced their campaign impressively with a 7-0 win over Chile in their opening Pool B fixture, followed by a commanding 17-0 victory against Oman, marking their second consecutive triumph.
Despite India's strong showings, Sreejesh remains wary of the competition, asserting that all teams are formidable and capable of achieving victory on any given day.
"Germany is a strong contender, and we might face them in the semifinals or finals. I can't predict how this journey will unfold, as all the top nine teams are equally capable on any match day," he remarked.
Further elaborating, Sreejesh stated that the team intends to take each match as it comes and will refrain from making premature predictions about future outcomes. "We are not forecasting anything; our primary focus is on the next match, the last league encounter. Then we will prepare for the quarterfinals and consider what lies ahead," he concluded.
