Hyderabad, April 4 (NationPress) In a pivotal match of the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26, Sreenidi Deccan FC is set to clash with Aizawl FC this Sunday at the Deccan Arena in Hyderabad, as the competition for a top-half table position intensifies.

With a victory, Sreenidi Deccan could momentarily ascend to the top of the standings with 14 points, thereby applying pressure on their rivals. Conversely, a win for Aizawl FC would allow them to level points with their opponents.

In their last match, Sreenidi Deccan managed only a goalless draw against Shillong Lajong, where goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh earned the title of Player of the Match. On the other hand, Aizawl FC seeks redemption following a 2-4 loss to Gokulam Kerala in their previous outing, which took place in Manjeri.

The home side has demonstrated impressive consistency this season, suffering only a single defeat and outperforming competitors like Diamond Harbour FC and Gokulam Kerala FC, while also sharing points with Shillong Lajong FC.

Head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto emphasized the importance of consistency for success this season, stating, “The team that maintains the highest level of consistency will ultimately prevail. The top of the table is tightly packed, and having depth in the squad with minimal injuries will be crucial.”

Aizawl FC, known as the People’s Club, started the season positively with a victory and two draws but has faced setbacks, losing two out of their last three matches. Assistant Coach Samuel Lalrinngheta Fanai highlighted the need for focus throughout the match: “We conceded two early goals last match. We must remain concentrated to defend effectively and achieve a favorable outcome against Sreenidi,” he remarked.

Sreenidi Deccan holds a favorable record against Aizawl FC with four wins and two draws in seven encounters, while Aizawl has secured only one victory. In their last match at the same venue, Sreenidi Deccan triumphed 3-0, thanks to goals from Gurmukh Singh, Lalromawia, and David Castañeda.

New signing Fabrice Kah expressed surprise at the physical demands of the Indian Football League, stating, “I did not anticipate needing to run this much in Indian football. The physicality is quite challenging, as we are frequently engaged in duels and must be prepared for opponent challenges.”

Aizawl FC, now facing back-to-back away games after starting their season at home, must adjust to the different weather conditions. “The climate is entirely different from what we experienced back home, and we had limited time to adapt. We must adjust accordingly and avoid making excuses,” Samuel added.

Aizawl FC forward Zomuansanga remains optimistic about their mindset, saying, “Tomorrow’s match is crucial. A win would propel us into the top half of the table. We are highly motivated and must leave excuses aside; we need to fight and showcase our skills on the field.”

A victory will elevate Aizawl to 11 points, placing them in an already crowded top table, while a win for Sreenidi Deccan would apply pressure on their closest rivals.
