Mitchell Starc has settled into the rhythm of T20 cricket and is determined to spark a turnaround in Delhi Capitals' fortunes as they prepare to face Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday. The seventh-placed DC, with eight points, must break a four-game losing streak at home to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Starc's T20 Resurgence

The left-arm pacer joined DC last week against Rajasthan Royals and has already claimed three wickets in two matches. Speaking ahead of Friday's clash, the 36-year-old reflected on his transition back to the shortest format. "It took me sort of the first game to get up to speed with T20 again, but the third game for me, and hopefully we can change a bit of our momentum as well," Starc said. He emphasised that his focus has been on executing the technical aspects of T20 cricket — yorkers and varied deliveries — rather than managing workload.

Powerplay Bowling Strategy

Starc acknowledged the challenge of bowling in the powerplay on Indian pitches, where batters are under constant pressure to score at a brisk rate. "You're looking at scores of 250-plus or scores over 200 a lot of the time," he noted. He stressed the importance of taking wickets early and breaking into the middle order to stem the flow of runs, while accepting that runs will inevitably flow at times. "It's trying to take those wickets and trying to get into that middle order through a power play is the best way to stem the flow of runs," Starc explained.

Adapting to Variable Pitches

Starc, who won the IPL 2024 title with KKR, flagged inconsistency in New Delhi surfaces as a key factor. He observed that the Arun Jaitley Stadium has offered "a different wicket every time" DC have played there this season. "I guess it's adapting the quickest out of the teams, and we probably haven't done that to the best of our abilities at home so far this year," he said, hinting that rapid pitch assessment will be critical on Friday.

KKR's Perspective

KKR wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi echoed the sentiment that every remaining match is crucial for their playoff chances. "I think every game from now on is very important," he said. Raghuvanshi, who spent a decade in New Delhi before relocating to Mumbai, acknowledged the unpredictability of the pitch but stressed the importance of quick assessment and communication with the team once the match begins. His approach has been to focus on watching the ball closely rather than overthinking conditions.
