Sukant now boasts 53,650 points, trailing only Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan at 56,680 points, with France’s Lucas Mazur in third place at 48,400 points.

This ranking leap resulted from a stellar performance across two Grade 2 tournaments and one Grade 1 tournament in Spain. Sukant excelled in the Grade 2 event, where he secured gold in the SL4 category, overpowering fellow Indian Tarun in a decisive final with a score of 21-13, 21-10.

“I’m thrilled to begin 2025 with a gold medal. Each match here was a valuable learning experience, and I’m pleased with my consistent performance. This victory provides me with significant motivation for the remainder of the season,” he remarked after his triumph.

In the Grade 1 tournament, he faced a fierce challenge but narrowly fell short of victory, losing to compatriot Naveen Sivakunar in a closely contested match (14-21, 21-14, 14-21).

Commenting on his achievement, Sukant stated, “This is a fantastic start to 2025, and I’m satisfied with my gameplay. Attaining World No. 2 is a moment of pride, but I must now focus on sustaining this momentum. With significant tournaments approaching, including the Asian Para Games and the World Championships next year, my aim is to maintain consistency and continue improving.”

Sukant’s ascent is indicative of not just individual brilliance but also India’s increasing prominence in para badminton on the global stage. With a packed international schedule ahead, all eyes will be on him as he strives for even greater accomplishments.
