Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the Vande Mataram CISF Cyclothon 2026, describing it as a powerful representation of discipline, dedication, and determination.
The CISF Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon–2026, a prominent national public outreach and awareness endeavor, was virtually inaugurated from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Wednesday. The event was honored by the presence of the Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai, who served as the Chief Guest.
With this flag-off, the 25-day extensive national initiative officially began, as two CISF cycling teams embarked from Bakkhali (West Bengal) and Lakhpat (Gujarat) simultaneously. These teams will collectively cover around 6,500 kilometers along India's eastern and western coasts, traversing nine coastal states and two Union Territories, culminating in Kochi on February 22, 2026.
“I wish the entire CISF team the best of luck. I believe the CISF marathon will be filled with joy and enthusiasm. Please join in. All the best,” Raina expressed in a video shared by CISF on its X handle, drawing a meaningful link between sporting excellence and national service. He commended CISF personnel for their unwavering efforts in raising awareness about the vital role of India’s maritime security.
“Such motivating remarks from a legendary athlete further bolster CISF’s commitment to undertake impactful initiatives for the greater good of the nation,” CISF shared on X.
During the journey, the Cyclothon will stop at 52 coastal villages, which will be adopted by CISF for ongoing engagement over the year. Working closely with key partners such as ONGC, Port Authorities, and other maritime agencies, local CISF units will engage in community welfare and infrastructure development projects, supported by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.
With 47 CISF units positioned near India’s coastline, the Force will ensure a long-term commitment to these adopted villages. Significantly, 50 percent of the cyclists participating are women, marking a notable advancement towards gender inclusivity and empowerment in national service initiatives.
The Cyclothon will also feature participation from prominent figures in sports, culture, the film industry, and public personalities during major events in Mumbai, Goa, Mangaluru, Konark, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai, before concluding in Kochi.
