Chennai, May 8 (NationPress) The upcoming Fit India Cycling rally in Chennai will be spearheaded by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on May 9, commencing at 6:30 AM. This picturesque cycling journey will start and conclude at the historic War Memorial, traversing through Napier Bridge and along the stunning Marina Beach, offering participants a revitalizing experience along the iconic coastline of the city.
Prior to the rally, a Zumba and Yoga warm-up session will take place at Island Grounds, directly opposite the War Memorial, beginning at 6:00 AM. This invigorating session will help participants gear up for the morning ride.
The rally will be ceremonially initiated by V. Baskaran, an Olympian and captain of the 1980 Olympic Gold Medal-winning Indian Hockey Team, in the company of other distinguished athletes, including Harinder Pal Sandhu, the only Indian squash player to clinch two gold medals in a single Asian Games.
This event will also witness enthusiastic involvement from athletes representing the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), and cycling aficionados from across Chennai.
This initiative is a part of the Fit India Movement, which aims to cultivate a culture of fitness and wellness nationwide. Events like this, along with the popular ‘Sundays on Cycle’ held in various cities, are motivating citizens to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The Chennai edition is set to be a lively celebration of fitness and community.
Recently, the sports minister engaged in a special edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, named ‘Cycling with Teachers’, alongside educators from across the nation at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
The cycling event under the Fit India Movement seeks to enhance the “Fight Obesity” campaign by emphasizing the crucial role of educators—teachers, coaches, and academic guides—in this week’s program.
Previously, Mandaviya led state sports ministers, athletes, and administrators in a special cycling rally to commemorate International Women’s Day at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Telangana.
