New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, is set to partake in a unique edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, named ‘Cycling with Teachers’, alongside educators from around the nation. This engaging event will occur at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on May 4.
The purpose of this cycling event, part of the Fit India Movement, is to support the Fight Obesity initiative by emphasizing the significant contributions of teachers, coaches, and academic mentors who play a vital role in this week’s program.
Launched in December 2024, this nationwide cycling initiative has attracted over two lakh participants of various ages across 5000 locations throughout India.
Star badminton athletes Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who recently received their Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award from Mandaviya, praised the initiative. 'Today, many people prefer motorcycles over bicycles, so it's fantastic to have a movement like this. I recently rode a child’s bicycle in Hyderabad,' Satwik told SAI Media, beaming.
'Cycling not only keeps you healthy but also aids the environment. It's a dual benefit to ride to work or enjoy leisure activities on a bicycle. Whether it's once, twice, or every day, please support this initiative by cycling,' stated Chirag.
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle event in the capital will commence at 7 AM at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The event will also feature Member of Parliament and popular Bhojpuri actor-singer Manoj Tiwari, along with mountaineer Narender Kumar, who recently conquered Mount Annapurna (8,091m), the world’s 10th highest peak, in just 12 days.
This initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), My Bikes, and MY Bharat. Since its inception in December 2024, the cycling drive has been conducted at over 5000 locations, drawing in approximately 2.5 lakh participants.
