Gandhinagar, July 13 (NationPress) - The 31st edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle took place successfully across the nation this Sunday morning, with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya spearheading an enthusiastic group of over 500 participants.
Organized in collaboration with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), this pan-India cycling initiative saw participation from more than 7000 locations nationwide, echoing the message of “Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”. The event featured 3000 Namo Fit India Cycling clubs.
“Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’ has evolved into a significant nationwide initiative, advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India mission with great vigor. This movement is not only about health but also about transforming our nation. Youth participation in over 7000 locations speaks volumes,” stated Mandaviya in Gujarat.
The sports minister also had a moment to connect with the Indian Youth Women’s Handball team, who are currently in training at the SAI NCOE Gandhinagar. The event in Gandhinagar was inaugurated by Arjuna Awardee and Para Powerlifting chief coach Rajinder Singh Rahelu.
Local dignitaries, including MLAs, the mayor, deputy mayor, district collector, and superintendent of police, also attended the event.
Participants hailed from leading PSUs such as PSPB, ONGC, Indian Oil, GAIL, HPCL, BPCL, EIL, Oil India, CPCL, IGL, NRL, MNGL, HMEL, Petronet LNG, Balmer Lawrie, Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited, and ONGC MRPL, among others.
Lalit Kumar Watts, advisor at Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), remarked, “The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative is a commendable effort led by Prime Minister Narender Modi and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. All oil firms under PSPB participated in this cycling drive, along with athletes from various sports disciplines.”
In New Delhi, the 31st edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle unfolded at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium, featuring a carnival atmosphere with activities like rope skipping, Zumba, and hatha yoga. The Great Khali, a former WWE World Heavyweight champion and the only Indian to achieve this title, inaugurated the event.
Over 3000 fitness enthusiasts of all ages attended, with Khali emphasizing the importance of fitness in Bharat’s aspiration to become a ‘Vishwaguru’.
“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions India as a ‘Vishwaguru’, and that vision can only be realized if we maintain our health and strength. Let’s unite to promote this vision of Modiji and encourage everyone to prioritize fitness in their daily routine,” Khali urged.
Khali, known as Dalip Singh Rana, also encouraged the youth to “stay away from drugs” and pursue positive activities like fitness and sports.
A special edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle was held in collaboration with Raahgiri Foundation in Gurgaon, attracting 700 participants engaged in cycling, yoga, and various entertaining games, including street dance, ludo, carrom, and more.
Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in conjunction with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat, Rope Skipping led by Dr. Shikha Gupta, and Yogasana Bharat, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle involves more than 3000 cycling clubs actively participating every Sunday.
These cycling initiatives are conducted at various Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), and numerous National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) throughout the country.
