Mansukh Mandaviya Champions 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' in Porbandar

New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya spearheaded the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative in his constituency of Upleta in Porbandar, Gujarat, on Sunday to promote cycling.

More than 150 cyclists accompanied the Union Minister from the Municipal Arts and Commerce College to the Taluka School Cricket Ground in Upleta, completing a distance of 5 km.

During the third week of the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle', Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain and former Commonwealth heavyweight wrestling champion Sangram Singh expressed their support for this cycling initiative.

This initiative has been organized at over 2,500 locations nationwide since its inception by Mandaviya last month.

Cycling is a solution to pollution. It is a health mantra. Everyone should cycle as it is beneficial for maintaining fitness. You can form a group and cycle together. I encourage everyone to register on the Fit India website and app to join the Sundays on Cycle movement, following the vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Please register at Upleta Cycling Club. I will also cycle with you when I am in Upleta,” Mandaviya stated in Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Fit India' initiative in 2019 with the aim of fostering a healthy and active lifestyle among citizens.

This week's theme focuses on a social campaign against drugs, with wrestler Sangram Singh leading over 500 cyclists, including soldiers from the Indian Army, Sports Authority of India (SAI) campers, senior officials, and members from various cycling clubs, such as the Giant Cycle Club in the National Capital.

The cyclists journeyed from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium to Vijay Chowk via Kartavya Path and back.

"I have always believed that health is the only wealth. Our body is a temple, and we should not abuse our body by consuming drugs. Additionally, cycling is one of the best activities to enhance fitness. If our Army jawans can dedicate their precious time from guarding our borders to promoting a healthy lifestyle, all of us can do it too. Say no to drugs and embrace Sundays on Cycle," Sangram Singh remarked before taking up a cycle to ride.

The 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and MY Bharat.

Events occur simultaneously across the nation at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), and the Khelo India Centres (KICs).
