New Delhi, June 29 (NationPress) Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya spearheaded a remarkable gathering today in Palitana, Gujarat, particularly highlighting the efforts of the ‘Swachhta Senanis’, our dedicated cleanliness champions, during a special edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle.

This nationwide cycling initiative took place across 6,000 locations simultaneously, featuring participation from staff and workers associated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, sanitation personnel, Nagar Palika Nigam staff, as well as representatives from state and district municipal corporations.

This marked the 29th edition of the cycling initiative that commenced across the country in December 2024. The Fit India Sundays on Cycle event has received notable recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his radio program Mann Ki Baat, establishing it as a cornerstone of India’s health and wellness agenda.

In Palitana, numerous cycling clubs from the Bhavnagar district participated. Mandaviya expressed that the campaign has evolved into a significant movement.

“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Fit India movement, initiated in 2019, is being advanced effectively through Sundays on Cycle. This initiative has transcended a mere campaign; it has become a movement,” Mandaviya stated.

“With the ‘Swachhata Senanis’ leading the way, we send a powerful message that fitness and cleanliness are interconnected. Everyone, regardless of their status, should contribute to Viksit Bharat, and we must promote cycling as a trend in today’s generation.”

Citizens from urban areas to small towns took to the streets early in the morning, demonstrating unity and dedication towards a healthier lifestyle. In addition to the Swachhata Senanis, local MLAs, police officers, and MYBharat volunteers from NYKS and NSS participated.

In the national capital, Delhi, nearly 1,000 cyclists gathered at the iconic Connaught Place for the event, co-hosted by the Raahgiri Foundation and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Chief guest Babita Phogat, a renowned Padma Shri awardee and former Commonwealth Games gold medallist, commended the initiative for cultivating a movement that extends beyond physical fitness.

“When our Prime Minister launched this campaign, we were thrilled to participate. Events like this provide us with mental satisfaction and motivate our youth to adopt active lifestyles. Today, attendees in CP spoke passionately about Fit India and Sundays on Cycle. The enthusiasm was palpable, and I believe many who cycled for the first time in years will continue this practice and inspire others,” Babita remarked.

Additional attractions during the event included Zumba, rope skipping, folk dance, nukkad natak, yoga sessions, and an open mic, with the rope skipping segment organized by a team led by Dr. Shikha Gupta.
