Legendary Sri Lanka cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya has praised 15-year-old Indian batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, saying the youngster has 'a long way to go' but will deliver when given the chance — while also backing Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as talented and proven match-winners.

Jayasuriya's Take on the Young Trio

Sooryavanshi, who made his international debut during India's T20I tour of England in July, was an unused squad member in India's 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In that series, Abhishek and Samson combined for 346 runs, including a standout 142-run opening partnership in the third T20I.

'They're talented and they've been proven players and all three, Sooryavanshi and all these players are really good. Sooryavanshi has a long way to go and when he will get the opportunity, he will do good,' Jayasuriya said on the sidelines of the Corporate Cricket World Cup launch on Sunday in Gurugram.

All three players are currently in Japan — first for a historic one-off T20I in Sano on Tuesday, before transitioning to the Asian Games in Nagoya.

Sri Lanka's Asian Games Hopes

Jayasuriya expressed confidence in both Sri Lanka's men's and women's teams at the Asian Games. Notably, the Sri Lanka women's team is set to face India in the gold medal match, while the men's campaign is scheduled to begin later this week. 'I think we have a talented, good team for Asian Games, men's and women's and they're doing well and I hope they will continue to do well,' he said.

High Praise for Sonal Dinusha

Jayasuriya reserved special admiration for Sri Lankan batting all-rounder Sonal Dinusha, whom he called a 'future of Sri Lanka.' Dinusha scored 100 and 84 in the first Test against India in Galle — a match Sri Lanka lost — before following up with a match-saving 103 and 133 not out in the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo, helping Sri Lanka secure an epic draw. 'Very good player, and future of Sri Lanka. It's always been good to see a player like him performing really well under pressure,' Jayasuriya said.

The Corporate Cricket World Cup Mission

Jayasuriya is serving as global ambassador for the Corporate Cricket World Cup, a pan-India tournament he described as a pathway for working cricketers who missed mainstream routes to the top. The competition will feature 192 corporate teams across 24 cities, with each city fielding eight teams. The top two finishers from each city will advance to the grand finale scheduled for July 2027. Formats will include 11-overs-a-side, T20, and 40-over matches to test players across varied conditions. 'From that talent... you'll be able to find few players, so that's the key,' Jayasuriya concluded.

With Sooryavanshi's international journey still in its earliest chapters, Jayasuriya's endorsement — however measured — adds to growing excitement around the teenager's long-term potential in Indian cricket.
