New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) Tanvi Sharma, the silver medalist at the world junior championships, alongside the national champions in women’s doubles, Ashwini Bhat K. and Shikha Gautam, as well as M. Tharun Mannepalli, have been elevated to the main draw of the BWF India Open 2026 following the withdrawal of several top players just before the tournament commenced.

Notably, Shi Yuqi, the world champion and No. 1 in men’s singles from China, has withdrawn after retiring in the final match of the Malaysia Open 2026 against Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Another Chinese player, Weng Hong Yang, has also pulled out.

In the women’s singles category, the third seed and reigning world champion, Akane Yamaguchi, who had to retire against PV Sindhu in the quarterfinals of the same event, has also stepped back, allowing Tanvi to make her debut at the India Open.
