Sylhet, Aug 31 (NationPress) Following Bangladesh's impressive eight-wicket victory over the Netherlands in the opening T20I match, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed expressed optimism about his journey to regain his rhythm. However, he acknowledged that he still has a considerable path ahead before returning to his peak performance.
At 29, Taskin is bouncing back from an Achilles injury that kept him out of the game for several months, sustained during the ICC Champions Trophy. "Alhamdulillah, I'm improving (in terms of rhythm). I made my comeback in the series against Sri Lanka post-injury but faced challenges with my rhythm there; however, I'm on the right track now," he stated.
"I've dedicated significant effort over the last few weeks in training, and although there’s a long journey ahead, I’m adhering to the process. As a fast bowler, my goal is to bowl at my maximum speed, but I understand the importance of adapting to the match situation,” he added.
"I bowled during the initial overs, in the middle, and at the end. I aimed to deliver based on the needs of the situation, and I managed to execute my plans effectively. In T20Is, even well-placed deliveries can result in boundaries. Overall, I felt good about my performance and was able to implement my variations well," Taskin told Cricbuzz.
He also highlighted that the dew factor unexpectedly changed the playing conditions, prompting tactical adjustments for the Bangladesh team. "To be honest, when we compete in the BPL during the winter, the dew is usually substantial, but I didn’t anticipate such a heavy dew in this hot weather. Nevertheless, the weather is beyond our control, and we must adapt accordingly," he commented.
Besides captain Litton Das's fifty, offspinner Saif Hassan made significant contributions by taking two vital wickets during the powerplay and scoring an unbeaten 36 runs off 19 balls after being elevated to the number four position.
"Saif played a pivotal role today. He not only picked up two wickets but also finished off strongly with the bat. Our goal in every match and series is to aim for victory and to learn from past errors. We are committed to enhancing our game by avoiding previous mistakes.
"That’s why each of us is training diligently off the field. We are focusing our practice on specific areas of improvement tailored for every player. It’s not merely routine training," Taskin concluded.
