New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal conveyed his heartfelt thanks after his hospital discharge following a heart attack on Monday. Even though he stepped back from international cricket in January 2025, Tamim remains active in domestic cricket. He was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club when he began to feel ill immediately after the toss.
Tamim was first taken to a nearby hospital for care, but later fell unconscious and required angioplasty surgery on Monday. The seasoned player stated that his life was spared thanks to the prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) administered at the moment of his heart attack.
“Thanks to all your prayers, I am now back home. In these four days, I have come to appreciate my surroundings as I feel like I've been given a new life. This realization is filled with only love and gratitude. I have always experienced your love throughout my career, but now it feels even more profound. I am genuinely overwhelmed,” Tamim shared in a message on his Facebook page in Bangla.
He also expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff, hospitals, support personnel, and everyone who played a crucial role in his recovery, specifically acknowledging trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim, whose timely CPR was deemed lifesaving when he collapsed.
“I don’t really know how to thank our trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim bhai. I later learned that the specialist doctors indicated I wouldn’t have survived if Dalim bhai hadn’t performed CPR properly at that critical moment,” he mentioned.
Tamim concluded his message by stating, “The path to complete recovery is still lengthy. Please keep my family and me in your prayers. May everyone's life be beautiful and peaceful. Love to all.”
Recognized as one of Bangladesh’s premier batters, Tamim has played 387 matches across formats, accumulating 15,192 runs, which includes 25 centuries. He is also the second-highest run-scorer for the Tigers across all three formats, trailing only Mushfiqur Rahim.
