New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been admitted to a hospital in Savar after experiencing severe chest pain during a match in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club.

The left-handed opener reported chest discomfort while playing against Shinepukur Cricket Club and was promptly taken to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hospital for urgent medical care.

A helicopter was initially arranged to transport Tamim from the BKSP ground in Savar, but he could not be flown. Consequently, he was rushed to Fazilatunnesa Hospital located in the outskirts of Dhaka.

According to Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), "He underwent initial examinations at a local facility, where mild heart issues were indicated. While en route to the helipad, he suffered severe chest pain and had to be taken back. Medical reports later indicated it was a massive heart attack."

The local news outlet, The Business Standard, reported that Tamim's health crisis has also resulted in the postponement of the BCB's planned directors' meeting, which was scheduled for Monday. Several BCB officials, including Akram Khan, are en route to visit Tamim.

The physiotherapist of Mohammedan, Enamul Haque, recounted the incident, stating, "Everything appeared normal in the morning when we arrived. However, after starting the match, he suddenly reported chest pain. We acted swiftly and transported him directly to the hospital."

Former cricketer Athar Ali Khan expressed his support on X, saying, "Prayers for Tamim Iqbal & requesting everyone to pray for his swift recovery. May ALLAH Taala grant him strength & courage for a full recovery soon. Aameen."
