Indore, Oct 6 (NationPress) Tazmin Brits attributed her remarkable form to recent batting camps after scoring her seventh ODI century - and her fourth in just five innings - as South Africa secured a six-wicket victory over New Zealand at Holkar Stadium on Monday, marking their first win of the tournament.
Brits delivered an impressive 101 runs, featuring 15 boundaries and a six, leading South Africa to a successful chase of 232 with 55 balls remaining. She achieved this milestone in just 41 innings, setting a record that surpasses Australian veteran Meg Lanning.
"Interestingly, I’m not typically focused on records, but I am pleased to have surpassed Meg Lanning. My priority is ensuring our team wins," stated Brits after being awarded the Player of the Match.
"I’m just backing myself more and aiming to maintain a positive mindset. Our batting camps were incredibly beneficial. I’m working on broadening my skills and avoiding being one-dimensional," she shared when discussing her keys to success.
Regarding her strategy for the chase, Brits emphasized the importance of a positive approach, stating, "I aimed to be as positive as possible. I’m thrilled I could connect well with the ball. Interestingly, it was a new bat I hadn’t used before; I believe it will be my lucky bat going forward."
On her bow and arrow celebration, Brits explained, "Sinalo interviewed us and asked about future celebrations. I encouraged fans to suggest celebrations, as the 50 is dedicated to my dad. Two 13-year-old girls, one from Australia and one from South Africa, inspired my latest celebration, which I did for them."
Previously, South Africa suffered a heavy 10-wicket loss against England in their opening match, where they were bowled out for just 69 in Guwahati. The Proteas are set to face hosts India in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, while New Zealand will compete against Bangladesh in Guwahati on Friday.
